The dryer has become an indispensable assistant in housekeeping. Its failure can cause serious inconvenience. In some cases, the equipment simply stops turning off. It works as long as the door remains closed.
In such a situation, do not panic. Usually, such a breakdown can be fixed independently. The fact is that the causes of this kind of malfunction lie in three things. So you don’t have to spend a lot of time figuring it out.
Let’s move on to a detailed analysis of each of the reasons and consider repair options.
So, the first possible malfunction that leads to the fact that the dryer does not stop is the blocking of the motor relay in the on position. The next common cause is turning on the wrinkle prevention feature. And the last possible option may be a stuck start button relay.
Anti-wrinkle function activated
Wrinkled clothes pulled out of the dryer become an unpleasant surprise. It will take a lot of effort and time in order to bring it into proper form and stroke it. Most often, creases on the fabric appear due to the fact that a lot of time has passed since the cycle was stopped, while things remained in the drum. Also, do not leave clothes for a long time in the washing machine. To prevent such problems, manufacturers have equipped dryers with a crease prevention function. This function is periodically activated and deactivated.
As soon as the drying cycle comes to an end, the dryer will turn off. However, when the anti-crease function is activated, after a while it will start working again, turning the laundry loaded into it. This will continue until you unload the drum.
Therefore, if the washing machine does not turn off, the first thing to do is to check if the corresponding function is activated in the dryer. In this case, your steps to solve the problem are very simple. You just need to turn off the wrinkle prevention function.
Motor relay blocking on the control board
This is the most common reason why the dryer won’t turn off.
If the relay is locked in the on position, then it simply does not respond to a signal from the control board. As a result, when the dryer door is closed, power is supplied to the motor through the door switch.
If you think that this failure is the cause of the dryer failure, then you need to follow these steps to fix it:
- Switch off the power to the dryer by unplugging the power cord from the socket. Next, move the equipment away from the wall so that
- Remove the screws securing the control panel.
- Then turn the control panel over so that you have an overview of the control board.
- The relay switch will be located in the lower sector on the right.
- Inspect the relay for faults. It can be melted, and black marks present on the metal panel can also indicate problems.
- You should also check the back of the board, there is a pin that could have burned out.
If a visual inspection revealed any damage, then the problem of the dryer not turning off lies in the relay switch. There are several ways to fix the breakdown.
If you have the skills to work with a soldering iron, then you can easily replace a failed relay yourself. To do this, you need to perform a series of actions.
If this option does not suit you, then you can replace the entire control board.
How to change a burnt relay?
Remove all fasteners holding the control board. Also don’t forget to disconnect the wiring.
Before you trace everything, it is worth photographing the initial state of the board. Thus, you can connect all the wires and connectors in place without errors.
Using a soldering iron, heat the contacts located on the back of the relay. Melt the old solder, then carefully move the relay away from the PCB. Next, you need to clean the work field from burn marks so that the new relay is installed efficiently and reliably.
After that, you can heat the contacts with a soldering iron and process them with solder. After the done manipulations, it is necessary to place the board in place in a plastic case. The next step is to install the protective cover. It remains to connect the wires.
The control panel must be placed back and the locks closed. Also do not forget to fasten it with screws. Now you can run a test drying cycle to check the performance of the repaired equipment.
How to replace the control board?
The first step is to unplug the dryer from the mains. After that, it is necessary to move it away from the wall and position it so that free access to all elements opens. Detach the top panel by unscrewing the screws holding it.
This way you can get to the control board. Do not forget to take a photo of all connections for the correct installation of the new element. Remove all wires and screws holding the control board. You also need to remove it from the mounting brackets.
Before installing a new board, you need to touch the frame of the washing machine. In this way, it will be possible to get rid of the accumulated static electricity.
Take the new board and install it on the support bracket. Make sure all mounting slots line up with the board. Fix the fixing screw.
Now you can start connecting the wires to the new element. Perform the previous steps in reverse order.
Start button relay blocked
The tumble dryer may stop turning off because the start button is stuck. Thus, when the door is closed, the motor receives a continuous signal to run. That is why the dryer does not stop.
