Whirlpool Washer Error Codes

All users of Whirlpool washers are informed about a very useful function – the electronic self-diagnosis system. That means that in the case of failure machine determines a breakage and displays information in a form of the code. With the help of this option, you can cope with a problem by yourself without calling a repair service. So it saves not only money but also a precious time.

Whirlpool Washer Error Codes

On this page, you can see the table filled with the error codes of Whirlpool washers. Each code diagnosis the certain issue and suggests the possible ways of its solution. For example, it may be a failure in the water supplying system, no draining, slow heating, breakage of the heater, engine malfunction etc. Many breakages can be repaired without any difficulties. It is useful to note that almost all washer`s models are characterized by common error codes. It is easy and doesn’t lead to confusion.

Clean Washer LED flashing at end of wash cycleThe washer has run 30 wash cycles and is indicating a reminder to run the Clean Washer with affresh cycle.Run the Clean Washer with affresh cycle. If the Clean Washer with afresh cycle is not turned on, the LED will stop flashing at the end of a wash cycle after running 3 more regular wash cycles. After 30 more wash cycles are completed, the Clean Washer LED will again flash at the end of a wash cycle as a reminder.

SUDSuds RoutineWhen excessive suds are detected, a suds routine automatically starts. This routine removes extra suds and assures proper rinsing of your garments. “SUD” is displayed during rinsing to inform you that Suds Routine was activated. Use only HE (High Efficiency) detergents.
F22Front door lockSelect PAUSE/CANCEL twice to cancel the cycle.
Check the following:
Is the washer door firmly shut?
The door must be completely closed for the washer to operate. The door may look closed, but may not be latched. Open the door and close firmly.
Were you washing a large load?
Before you close the washer door, check for laundry items sticking out beyond the door opening. Leave enough space in the washer to allow the clothes to tumble freely. An tightly packed basket may keep the door from shutting completely. Reduce your load size if needed.
Press POWER and select START
F” codes other than F20, F21, or F22Select PAUSE/CANCEL twice to cancel the cycle. Select DRAIN/SPIN if there is excessive water in the washer.

If your washing machine has a “Dosing Aid” function, and you used it: check if the dosing values set for the different programme groups correspond to the dosing values recommended for the detergents you use (see details in separate Instructions for the “Dosing Aid”).
• Select and start the “Rinse & Spin” programme.
• Afterwards select and start the desired programme again, using less detergent. See also paragraph “The machine is at a standstill....” on first page of Troubleshooting Guide.

Draining out faultFor models with a fault display, depending on the model, the display shows statically or alternately “FP”. Switch off the appliance by turning the programme selector to the “O” position and unplug it.
For models with no fault display, the washing machine stops in the appropriate step. Switch off the appliance and unplug it.
Check whether:
• the drain hose is kinked (see “Installation Guide”);
• the pump / filter are blocked (see “Removing the Filter / Draining Residual Water”); IMPORTANT: before draining, allow the wash water to cool down.
• the drain hose is frozen.
Connect the appliance to the electrical supply. For models with a fault display reselect the desired programme and press the “Start/Pause” button again to continue with the programme (do not add detergent for this programme).
For models without a fault display continue the programme by pressing the “On/Off” button again (do not add detergent for this programme).
If the fault re-occurs, contact After-Sales Service (see “After-Sales Service”).
Electrical module faultFor models with a fault display “F4” to “F15” are displayed and some or all Spin Speed Selection LEDs are flashing. Switch off the appliance. Select a programme and press the “Start/Pause” button once again. The programme will continue.
For models without a fault display the washing machine stops in the appropriate step. Switch the appliance first off, then on. The programme will continue.
If the fault re-occurs, contact After Sales Service (See “After-Sales Service”).
Water Stop fault (if available)The “Water Stop” may have been triggered by:
1.too much foam.
2.a leak in the inlet hose or in the appliance.
In this case the pump is switched on automatically in order to pump the water out.
For models with a fault display the light of the “Water Stop” indication is on. The display shows “FA” or alternately “F” and “A” and the pump is running. Switch off the appliance by turning the programme selector to the “ ” position, unplug the appliance and make sure that the water tap is closed.
For models without a fault display the washing machine stops in the appropriate step. Switch off the appliance, , unplug the appliance and make sure that the water tap is closed.
Tilt the appliance forwards carefully to allow the collected water to flow out.
Then:
1.plug in the appliance,
2.turn the water tap on (if water immediately flows into the appliance again, without the appliance being started, close water supply and call After-Sales Service).
For models with a fault display reselect the desired programme and press the “Start/Pause” button again to continue with the programme (do not add detergent for this programme).
For models without a fault display continue the programme by pressing the “On/Off” button again (do not add detergent for this programme).

7. Verify CCU operation by running a Quick Diagnostic Test or any cycle
A10Long drainIf the drain time exceeds 4 minutes the water valves turn off. NOTES: Rotate knob to clear the display.

1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Remove hose from pressure switch. Dislodge any debris build up in the hose inside the outer tub.
4. Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
5. Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects.
6. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
7. If the above does not correct the problem, go to step 8.
8. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
9. Replace the pump.

- If there is no water in the unit:

- Verify that the pressure switch hose is in good condition and properly connected to tub and pressure switch.
- Remove hose from pressure switch. Dislodge any debris build up in the hose inside the outer tub

F02Overflow conditionOverflow level has been reached, and last for more than 2 seconds. In an overflow condition, the door remains locked and the drain pump runs constantly, and after 10 minutes, door will be unlocked in order to cut off the valves power. Then if overflow s till happens, start pump again. Turn off hot and cold water faucets and unplug the unit before servicing.
Possible Causes/Procedure
1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power, if water still flows into the washer, replace the water valve.
3. Check wire harness connections to the drain pump, pressure switch, water inlet value, and Central Control Unit (CCU).
4. Check/clean drain pump filter of foreign objects.
5. Check for drain pump failure.
6. Check the inlet valve for proper shut off.
7. Check the pressure switch for proper operation.
8. Rerrove hose from pressure switch. Dislodge any debris build up in the hose inside the outer tub. Debris in side the hose will not allow the switch to sense a pressure change.
F03Long drainIf the drain time exceeds 4 minutes the water valves turn off .Only in factory test. NOTES: Rotate knob to clear the display.
Possible Causes/Procedure
1. Turn washer ON to verify pump operates.
2. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
3. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
4. Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
5. Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects.
6. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
7. If the above does not correct the problem, go to step 8.
8. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
9. Replace the pump.
F05Water temperature sensor errorIf the water temperature sensor (NTC) value is out of range (Below 23 degrees F. or above 217 degrees) during wash cycle.
Possible Causes/Procedure
1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
2. Check the water temperature sensor and connection to it
3. Refer to the Water Temperature Sensor section, page 8.
4. Check wire harness and connections between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the water temperature sensor
F06Drive motor tachometer errorIf the control is unable to properly detect motor speed, the machine shuts down.
Possible Causes/Procedure

“L2” Diagnostic Code. The drum will turn, but there may be a problem with your home power supply keeping the dryer's heater from turning on.Check the following:
Check to see if a household fuse has blown or circuit breaker has tripped. Electric dryers use two household fuses or breakers. Replace the fuse or reset the circuit breaker.
Select a Timed Dry heated cycle, and restart the dryer.
If the message persists, consult a qualified electrician.

“AF” Diagnostic Code. The dryer vent may be crushed or blocked.Check the following:
Check to see if the vent run from the dryer to the wall is crushed.
Confirm the vent run from the dryer to the wall is free of lint and debris.
Confirm the exterior vent exhaust hood is free of lint and debris.
Confirm your vent system falls within the recommended run length and number of elbows for the type of vent you are using. Refer to “Plan Vent System” for details.
Select a Timed Dry heated cycle, and restart the dryer.
If the message persists, have your entire home venting run cleaned.
