The indication of the F20 Error code on the main panel of your Whirlpool device signalizes that there are some issues with the water-supply system. In simple words, your washer does not get enough water to start the washing cycle.
What can cause the F20 Error?
The easiest explanation for the F20 Error code indicated on the screen of your device is that the inlet valve is closed and the water does not come through the water pipe into the machine.
If it’s not your case, the water-flow sensor malfunction can also cause this error, as well as the failure of the control board (whether a one-time glitch or a serious breakage).
And of course, the first thing to check while looking for the cause of the F20 code — is the main supply of your house/apartment. Maybe you turned it off and forgot about it? Or the whole house’s water supply is cut off for some reason.
How to fix the F20 Error?
After you checked the water supply system, exclude the system glitch from the list of the reasons. Try to reset the error, pressing the Enable/Disable button and then reboot your appliance, letting it rest for 15 minutes. If after restarting the machine the code is still indicated on the screen, proceed with a more serious examination.
Start with the flow sensor, in which the main function is to control how much water is getting into the tank of your device and to send signals to the main module. Depending on the model of your washer, the flow detector can be placed right in the inlet valve, or separately. So the first thing is to find it. Inspect it for any visible damage, clean it thoroughly, and check with the multimeter. In most cases, it has to be replaced.
Proceed with the inspection of the inlet valve and the hosepipe. There can be some clogs, which do not allow water to get into the tank. Rinse the filter and the hose from the inside, using special cords and brushes. Carefully install everything back.
In some cases, it will be necessary to replace the inlet valve and here it is better to consult with an experienced repairman.
If none of the above steps helped you in the determination of the error cause, there might be a malfunction of the control panel. You can check its contacts and elements for burning out or breaking. Sometimes they can be fixed or replaced. The worst case is the replacement of the whole panel, as the proper operation of these components is crucial for your washing machine.
